Delayed Anniversary Aftermath! - Posted by LoreOfSerpents on January 27, 2013

Thank you again to everyone who was able to join us for our rescheduled anniversary party! Despite us having moved it from our usual November date, a good time was had by all, and we gave away a bunch of prizes. If you missed it and still want a shot at winning a $100 Steam certificate, there's more information about our FINAL 6th anniversary event at the bottom of this post! (Hint: It's a "GG was here" photo contest.)

Speaking of awesome prizes, most of the Torchlight II and Torchlight copies were graciously provided by Runic Games, the developers behind the Torchlight series. Additionally, sww from Platinum Simmers donated several beta keys for the upcoming release of Sim City, and we are lucky to have even more people in the community who donated prizes of their own this year. Thank you to Dariuas, Gamabunta, [KoG]^AlGore, Zorky, DMAULS, Etrigan, and daemonic for generating an impressive prize list!

Event-wise, we started out the day with some familiar favorites. Milestone was crazier than usual thanks to me running it for the first time ever, with ziv, Fr1kEd, and Rav3n all tying for first to win $60 in Steam credit. chalk and bael tied for second and respectively requested Torchlight II and Saints Row 3 DLC. For third place, [Aura]HazeofSpace requested Torchlight II and Gamabunta received The Book of Unwritten Tales.

Moving on from Milestone, our very own Etrigan started up a game of UNO! Results there were a little more sane, with bael winning 1st place and receiving even more DLC for Saints Row 3 and Borderlands 2. ceil took second place and earned $30 in Steam credit, while [Aura]HazeofSpace won third place and requested some merchandise from ThinkGeek.com. Mego tricked us into giving him a prize as well, so he received some ThinkGeek.com merchandise for fourth place.

After Milestone and UNO!, we deviated a little bit from previous years. Se7eN fearlessly organized a Quake Live King of the Hill event, which pikaluva13 helped get started, and Inane emerged triumphant after a long and bloody series of battles. He earned a Razer Naga Hex for his efforts, and the remaining prizes were raffled off to the other participants. From the raffle, Inithis won $40 in Steam credit and LaG|RickJames won $20 in Steam credit. Thank you to everyone who made the Quake Live tournament happen! We're very happy with how successful the event was and we're hoping to bring more events like that to the Quake Live community.

Finally, we ended the day's main events with a rousing bout of trivia. Over the course of trivia, we learned that Mego's alter ego is IRCWiki, Google is actually very effective for speed-answering Torchlight II and Firefall questions, and no one remembers The Sims being a major game in 2000. Mego took first place and received a copy of Far Cry 3, and after much shuffling around of prize winners, Nobody` took second place to earn a copy of Natural Selection 2, Blizniak won a copy of The Cave for third place, and Tanarin won a copy of World Basketball Manager 2010 for taking fourth place.

Of course, we raffled off an obscene number of prizes throughout the day. Our raffle winners for this year's anniversary include Rachela (Torchlight II), JarNod (Pay Day), Linkshot (Sim City beta key), Finalz (Torchlight II), {KHI}DellGuy (Sim City beta key), I2ed3ye (Torchlight II), Anonycat (Dead Island), SteelDrake (Torchlight II), Fr1kEd (Borderlands 2), [cP]Clipz (Torchlight II), maxim99 (Torchlight II), ThcMan (Torchlight II), kylewins (The Cave), oskr`work (Edge of Space pre-order), LaG|uranus (Edge of Space pre-order), nfrs (Don't Starve), PSTARR (Torchlight II), dredge (Torchlight II), insanity (Torchlight II), KNOCKOUTDAD (Torchlight II), BunneH (Torchlight II), [Aura]BigByte (Razer DeathAdder). In addition, we gave away several copies of Torchlight and The Journey Down to users who were interested in those awesome games.

Our anniversary has always been about showing our appreciation to our users for all of your support over the years, and we're grateful to have been able to do so for 6 years now. We'll have more information about upcoming events in the next few days, including a developer chat for a fantastic indie game and a tournament for Xonotic that we've been talking about since November!

We do have one more way for people to win prizes this year, and we're hoping to make it an annual part of our anniversary. Many of you are already familiar with the "GG was here" section of our website, where we feature pictures of users with a message depicting the GG logo or the words "GG was here." We are excited to open up a contest for this feature, with the following guidelines:

1. All entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM EST on February 28, 2013. Submit them via email to support@globalgamers.net
2. All entries must include the name(s) of any GG user(s) pictured, and a Google Maps location at which it was taken.
3. No obscene entries.
4. No entries depicting an illegal or dangerous activity.
5. All entries must clearly show a GG user. Sunglasses are fine, but hiding behind a shrub is not.
6. All entries must contain the message "GG was here!" or the GG logo.
7. Only one prize will be awarded per entry - so if you have multiple GG users in the picture, you split the prize!
8. Submissions will be rated based on the creativity of the "GG was here!" or GG logo message, and the quality of the backdrop.
9. Multiple submissions from the same user are acceptable.

Remember, first place will win $100 in Steam credit! Second place will get $50 in Steam credit, and third place will receive my choice of a Steam game for their library. I promise it won't be Barbie's Adventures in Horseville or anything like that.

Good luck! We can't wait to see what you guys come up with. Thank you for 6 fantastic years, and here's to many more!
