Have YOU been to the Edge of Space? - Posted by LoreOfSerpents on February 3, 2013
On Saturday, we were very lucky to have LadyAijou, LordShaggy, and SteamPunkProgrammer join us for a live Q&A session about their upcoming game, Edge of Space! It was a solid hour and a half of free-for-all gaming interrogations, and we hope everyone had as much fun as we did.
If this is your first time hearing about the title, Edge of Space is a 2D side scroller sandbox type of game that sounds like it just gets everything right. Built by Handyman Studios with multiplayer in mind from the get-go, it boasts all of the following and more:
- Intense battles with intelligent enemies who don't just wait for you to find them
- A diverse arsenal of customizable weapons
- Significant environmental effects and terraforming abilities
- An expansive but efficient crafting setup
- An incredibly flexible power grid system
- A unique backstory
- Mechs of pure destruction that you can pilot yourself
The main systems are designed with scaling difficulties, so you can make them as basic or as complex as you want. Music buffs should watch this video of playing music using the grid's normal sound effects, and engineers need to get acquainted with the power grid's logic gates to get a sense of what you can build. We've already seen evidence of Pozuski having built a 16-bit adder/subtractor using only Edge of Space technology! And if that's not enough for you, there are velociraptors wearing space helmets, space sharks that shoot lasers, and a swarm of other hilarious characters awaiting you.
Are you convinced yet? You can access the beta immediately by pre-ordering it through Desura, and you can also vote for Edge of Space to show up on Steam at Steam Greenlight.
For those of you who missed the Q&A, have no fear! We've posted a log of the shenanigans here for you to read at your leisure. We were even treated to a sneak peek of part of the game's new UI redesign, so check it out!
Thank you to everyone who joined us, and thank you again to the fine folks at Handyman Studios for spending their Saturday afternoon with us!
PS. DON'T FORGET! Entries for the "GG was here" contest are due by the end of February. See the end of this post for more information.
