Channel Registration Guide
The following is a brief guide on how to successfully complete registration of a channel, in addition to the rules that you are expected to comply with immediately upon registration. If you have any additional questions you are encouraged to speak to a member of our Support Team.
What are channels for?
On IRC, channels give users a place to chat, organize events, and coordinate meetings or strategies. Many people use channels to take part in group discussions and find people with similar interests. Gamers find IRC channels especially useful because they can find other groups of people who play the same games and arrange in-game activities.
How can I register a channel?
Different networks have different policies for channel registrations. On Global Gamers, users can register their own channels and are responsible for following our rules for channel registrations.
What are the guidelines for registering a channel?
- Channel names must not contain hateful or obscene language.
- Channels are not to be used for illegal activities or anything else that violates our network rules, which can be found here.
Now I know the rules for registering a channel, but what command do I type?
Make sure you are opped in the channel you wish to register, then type the following (substituting #channel for the channel you want):
/msg ChanServ register #channel
What if the channel I want is already registered?
In most cases, if someone is already using the channel you want, you will need to choose a different channel or wait for the current registration to expire. However, if you believe someone registered the channel just to prevent others from using it, please contact a member of GG's Support Team to discuss the situation.
How does a channel expire?
ChanServ will abandon a channel if 30 days pass without a Manager(300-399), Coowner(400-499), or Owner(500) visiting the channel.
